Investigating the level of understanding regarding the hemorrhoids among the patients attending outpatient department of Civil hospital, Nurpur, Himachal Pradesh
Background: Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are a common medical condition affecting a significant portion of the population. The aim of this study is to investigate the level of understanding regarding hemorrhoids among patients attending the outpatient department of Civil Hospital, Nurpur, Himachal Pradesh. Material & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between January 2023- April 2023 among patients attending Civil hospital Nurpur, Himachal Pradesh and selected by convenience sampling technique. Data was collected through face-to-face interview using a semi-structured questionnaire. Data was analyzed using epi info v7 software using appropriate statistical tests.Results: A total of 400 respondents including 282 (70.5%) male patients and 118 (39.5%) female patients were participated in the study. Among the total, 137 (34.25%) were from urban area and 263 (65.75%) were from rural area. In the present study 25.5% (102) participants had very good knowledge (16-20 marks) towards hemorrhoids, 41.25% (165) had good knowledge (12-15 marks), 24.5% (98) had fair knowledge (8-11 marks) and 8.75% (35) having poor knowledge (<8 marks). Conclusion: In conclusion, there was significant knowledge gap and limited awareness among the participants regarding hemorrhoids. The identified knowledge gaps highlight the need for targeted educational interventions and patient awareness programs focused on hemorrhoids.
