Background: Empowering women's health requires addressing awareness gaps in reproductive health, particularly concerning uterine fibroids and uterine cancer. This study focuses on the reproductive age women of District Solan, Himachal Pradesh, aiming to assess and enhance awareness levels in this unique regional context. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between August 2023 and November 2023. The study included 400 women of reproductive age, residing in District Solan for at least 12 months. A Google Form questionnaire assessed socio-demographics, uterine fibroids and uterine cancer knowledge. Data were analyzed using Epi Info V7 Software, employing descriptive statistics. Results: Of the 400 participants, 61% were from rural and 39% from urban areas. While 81% were familiar with "Uterine fibroids" and "Uterine Cancer," knowledge gaps were evident, with 30% understanding risk factors and 28.25% aware of preventive measures. Health-seeking behavior was positive, with 53.5% undergoing regular screenings. Participants relied on healthcare providers (47%) and workshops (25.5%) for information. Suggestions for improvement included targeted campaigns and community workshops. Comparison with previous studies in India highlighted regional nuances and healthcare-seeking behavior. Conclusion: The study reveals moderate awareness levels, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions. Addressing regional disparities and enhancing community engagement are crucial for effective reproductive health initiatives. The findings contribute to the literature, providing a foundation for tailored interventions in District Solan, Himachal Pradesh.
The pursuit of women's health empowerment necessitates a nuanced understanding of prevalent reproductive health concerns, especially in the context of diverse regional populations. Uterine fibroids and uterine cancer, noncancerous growths and malignant transformations of the uterus, respectively, stand out as critical issues that can profoundly impact the well-being of women. This research endeavors to shed light on the current state of awareness regarding uterine fibroids and uterine cancer among women in the reproductive age group in District Solan, Himachal Pradesh.
Uterine fibroids and uterine cancer represent significant challenges to women's health globally, with regional disparities influencing healthcare-seeking behaviors and outcomes. The need for localized investigations is underscored by the unique demographic and cultural characteristics of communities. In this context, a focused study on District Solan is imperative to tailor interventions to the specific needs of the community.
The relevance of this study is heightened by the potential impact of uterine fibroids and uterine cancer on reproductive health, ranging from benign symptoms to fertility issues and life-threatening conditions. Previous research, including studies conducted in India, has underscored the correlation between awareness, timely diagnosis and improved health outcomes for various reproductive health issues [1,2].
Despite the significance of uterine health, there is a notable gap in local-level studies assessing awareness and knowledge in the Himachal Pradesh region, specifically in District Solan. This research seeks to address this gap and contribute valuable insights that can inform targeted health education initiatives, screening programs and policy interventions to enhance women's reproductive health outcomes in the region.
In the Indian context, studies by Gupta et al. [3], Reddy et al. [4] and Singh et al. [5], have emphasized the need for region-specific awareness campaigns and interventions to tackle reproductive health challenges. Our study aligns with these insights, aiming to fill the void in understanding awareness levels within the Himachal Pradesh region.
The present study is poised to assess and enhance awareness regarding uterine fibroids and uterine cancer among women of reproductive age in District Solan, Himachal Pradesh. By grounding our investigation in the regional context and drawing insights from pertinent Indian studies, we strive to pave the way for improved preventive strategies, early detection and overall empowerment of women's reproductive health in the region.

The present study aimed to evaluate the awareness levels regarding uterine fibroids and uterine cancer among women of reproductive age in District Solan, Himachal Pradesh. Employing a cross-sectional survey design with a sample size of 400 participants, encompassing both rural and urban areas, the research provides critical insights into the current knowledge landscape. This discussion explores the findings in detail, drawing comparisons with previous studies in India and highlighting implications for targeted interventions.
The study demonstrated a moderate overall awareness level, with 25.25% of participants exhibiting very good knowledge, 35.75% with good knowledge, 22.75% with fair knowledge and 16.25% with poor knowledge. Regional disparities were evident, with 61% of respondents from rural areas and 39% from urban areas. Addressing these disparities is vital for tailoring health education programs to diverse communities [6].
Despite the high awareness of the terms "Uterine fibroids" and "Uterine Cancer" (81%), substantial gaps were noted in understanding risk factors (30%) and preventive measures (28.25%). This highlights the need for targeted interventions providing detailed information on mitigating risk factors and adopting preventive measures. The positive health-seeking behavior observed in regular health check-ups or screenings (53.5%) presents an opportunity to integrate reproductive health screenings into routine healthcare practices [7].
Participants primarily relied on healthcare providers (47%) and awareness programs or workshops (25.5%) for reproductive health information. This underscores the pivotal role of healthcare professionals and community-based educational initiatives in disseminating accurate information. The low participation (24.5%) in awareness programs indicates an area for improvement, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts involving healthcare providers, community leaders and educational institutions [8].
Participants' suggestions for enhancing awareness and education about uterine health (25.5%) provide valuable insights. These may include targeted awareness campaigns, community workshops and the integration of reproductive health education into school curricula. Engaging with the community and incorporating their suggestions can increase the effectiveness of awareness programs and foster a sense of ownership [9].
The findings of this study align with and extend insights from previous research in India. Gupta et al. [3], emphasized region-specific awareness campaigns, resonating with oustudy's regional focus. Reddy et al. [4], highlighted the importance of addressing knowledge gaps in rural and urban areas, supporting the necessity of tailored interventions for diverse populations. Singh et al. [5], underscored the role of healthcare providers in disseminating information, corroborating our finding that healthcare professionals are a key source of reproductive health knowledge. Additionally, studies by Sharma et al. [10] and Patel et al. [11], further contribute to the understanding of regional variations and healthcare-seeking behavior.
In conclusion, this study provides a comprehensive overview of awareness levels regarding uterine fibroids and uterine cancer among women in District Solan, Himachal Pradesh. The identified knowledge gaps and regional disparities offer valuable insights for the development of targeted interventions, ultimately contributing to improved reproductive health outcomes in the region.
