Aqueous extracts of leaves of Vinca rosea, Piper betle and Mussaenda erythrophylla, seeds of Carica papaya, cured leaves of Nicotiana tabacum and concentrated solutions of Turmeric power, Rootex and Ajinomotto were studied for their effect on proliferative activity of cells. Distilled water was taken as control. Allium cepa is the plant of choice for studying mitosis as they germinate easily without soil. So, the chemicals provided to the plant can be easily controlled. They also grow quickly and are only a few cells thick. Based on the mitotic index obtained the conclusion was arrived that the Vinca rosea, Carica papaya seed and Turmeric powder are antimitotic whereas Ajinomotto, Rootex, Nicotiana tabacum and Piper betel show higher values than that of the control indicating their ability to promote mitosis.
</article-meta></front><body /><back /></article>
